Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze has canceled his appearance at the Montgomery Quarterback Club Annual Awards Banquet scheduled for Tuesday night. Freeze’s office sited the possibility that there might be heavy rain that might keep him from flying from Oxford to Montgomery.
The Montgomery Quarterback Club deeply appreciates Auburn University coming to our rescue with Offensive Coordinator Rhett Lashlee agreeing to be our Awards Banquet speaker. Coach Lashlee served as Offensive Coordinator at Arkansas State last season before coming to Auburn. He has worked with Coach Gus Malzahn six of the last nine seasons including serving as an offensive graduate assistant at Auburn for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
This season at Arkansas State, Lashlee, who was a Broyles Award nominee as the nation's top assistant coach, helped guide Arkansas State to a Sun Belt Championship, while ranking 17th nationally in total offense (481.8 ypg), 21st in scoring offense (36.4 ppg) and rushing offense (217.4 ypg). Under Lashlee, school and conference record-setting quarterback Ryan Aplin, was named the Sun Belt Player of the Year after leading the league in passing yards, passing efficiency, and total offense. Aplin was 18th nationally in passing efficiency, throwing for 23 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2012 after throwing 19 TDs and 16 interceptions the season before Lashlee's arrival.
The Quarterback Club will honor Jeremy Johnson from Carver as its Public School Player of the Year, Dylan Ingram from Edgewood Academy as its Private School Player of the Year, Tevin Washington from Georgia Tech as the winner of the College MVP Award, Toby King as the winner of the Andrews Institute High School Comeback Award, and Coach Mike Battles from Tallassee as the winner of the Dr. Jim Maloy Coach of the Year Award. The Montgomery Quarterback Club meets at the Montgomery Country Club. Guests are welcome but must make an advance reservation and pay $30 at the door. For reservations, email the Quarterback Club at

A large contingent of Ole Miss Alumni has made reservations for the Banquet. We ask that anyone wishing to cancel their reservation, email us by noon on Tuesday.
