Larry Blakeney is in his 20th season as Head Football Coach of the Troy Trojans. Over that span, he has compiled a 153-77-1 record. Blakeney is the longest-serving and winningest coach in Troy football history. 

Blakeney has guided the Trojans to 14 winning seasons, including six seasons of 10 wins or more. He stands fourth among all college coaches who have manned a sideline in the state of Alabama with 153 victories. For all his hard work, Blakeney was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in May as part of its Class of 2009. 

Prior to his arrival at Troy, Blakeney coached at Auburn University for 14 seasons. During his time at Auburn, the Tigers compiled a 110-50-3 record and won four SEC Championships and made nine bowl appearances. Before going to Auburn, Blakeney was a successful Alabama high school coach. He compiled a 50-24-2 record at Southern Academy, Walker High School, and Vestavia Hills High School. 

A 1970 graduate of Auburn University with a B.S. in business administration, Blakeney was a three-year starter at quarterback for the legendary Ralph “Shug” Jordan. Blakeney was a two-sport athlete at Auburn also lettering in baseball. Blakeney earned a Master’s degree from the University of Montevallo. 

Blakeney was born in Birmingham but grew up in Gordo, where he played football, basketball, and baseball for Gordo High School. Blakeney is married to the former Janice Powell. The Blakeney’s have three daughters: Kelley, Julie, and Tiffany and three granddaughters: Caroline, Madeline, and Danielle.
