Gregg Baker begins his second year as head coach of the
Faulkner University Eagles. The Eagles showed vast improvement during the 2009
season under Coach Baker.
Coach Baker is a native of Montgomery
and was a three-year starter at Carver
High School under Davis
Brock and Al Pickett. He as selected as an Adidas/Sports Illustrated
All-American in 1985. Baker received an athletic scholarship to Georgia Tech.
Baker began his coaching career at Trinity Presbyterian
School where he served in
a number of capacities over 13 years. He then spent two years as the head coach
at Georgia Washington Junior High, compiling a 13-2 record and winning a city
championship. In 2002, Baker became the offensive coordinator at Jeff Davis
High School, helping the
Vols to a state runner-up finish in 2002. In 2005, Baker spent a year as the
offensive line coach at Prattville High School before being named the head coach at Alabama Christian Academy
in 2006. Coach Baker was an assistant at Faulkner in 2008 before being named
head coach in January, 2009.
Coach Baker has been married for 18 years to the former Dana
Kirk of Montgomery, Alabama.
Mike Turk begins his seventh season leading the
Huntingdon Hawks football program. Prior to Huntingdon Turk coached 13
years at Troy
(State) University. A graduate of Jeff
Davis High
School in Montgomery, Turk became a walk-on quarterback for Troy in the spring of
1984 and became a prominent figure on the Trojan field and sideline for two decades
before returning to his hometown roots.
While a student-athlete at Troy, Turk became one of the most decorated
players in school history. He led the school to two NCAA Division II national
championships, in 1984 and 1987. Three times Turk was selected as an
All-Conference performer in the Gulf South Conference, and was runner-up for
the prestigious Harlon Hill Trophy, given to the nation’s top Division II performer.
Turk was a consensus All-America selection as a senior and was named GSC
Freshman of the Year in 1984.
During his playing career, Turk rushed for 2,632
yards and produced 5,739 yards of total offense, the second-best career marks
in school history, while leading his team to a 40-8-1 overall record. He played
or coached in 20 of Troy’s
22 postseason games.
As the Trojan running backs coach, Turk was
responsible for building one of the nation’s most consistent running games.
Three of his running backs (Eddie Coleman, Arrid Gregory and Joe Jackson) have
rushed for more than 2,000 career yards. Jackson
broke the school record for touchdowns in a career with 26 in 1997, a record
previously held by Turk. During his 12 seasons as running backs coach at Troy, Turk had nine
players to earn all-conference honors.
He is married to the former Danielle Warren of Alexander City. They have two sons, Jimbo and
Jake.
Reggie Barlow is in his 4th season as head coach
of the Alabama State Hornets. The Hornet program under Coach Barlow continues
to build and mature towards its goal of returning ASU to glory on the gridiron.
Coach Barlow is a native of Montgomery
and was a standout at Sidney
Lanier High
School. He was recruited to ASU by legendary
coach Houston Markham. Barlow finished his ASU career with 133 catches and
2,536 yards.
The NFL took notice of Barlow’s numbers and he was selected
in the fourth round of the 1996 NFL draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 1998,
he led the NFL in pun return yardage, with 43 returns for 555 yards. He still
owns a number of Jaguar records.
After five seasons in Jacksonville,
Barlow joined the Oakland Raiders. In 2002, he began a two - year tenure with the
Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he would earn a Super Bowl ring.
In 2005, Barlow started his coaching career when he joined
the ASU football staff as quarterbacks coach. Barlow served as mentor and tutor
to future NFL quarterback Tavaris Jackson. After the 2006 season, Barlow was
named interim head coach and a few weeks later, the interim title was removed.
Coach Barlow is married to the former Tracy Kidd and he is
the father of three children, Erica, Reggie, Jr., and Simone.
