Coach Bobby Bowden retired as the head football coach of the Florida State Seminoles after the 2009 season. Coach Bowden began his tenure at Florida State in 1976. During his time at Florida State, Coach Bowden led the Seminoles to the 1993 AP and Coaches Poll National Title and to the BCS National Championship in 1999. He won 12 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships and was selected as the Walter Camp Coach of the Year in 1991. Coach Bowden finished his career with a record of 389-117-4.

 

Coach Bowden is a native of Birmingham and a graduate of Howard College (now Samford University). Coach Bowden served as head coach at Howard from 1959-1962 and at West Virginia from 1970-1975 before becoming the Seminoles head coach.

 

Coach Bowden has been married for 62 years to his high school sweetheart, the former Ann Estock. The Bowden’s have six children. Two of their sons have been Division I-A head coaches. Terry was head coach at Auburn where he led the Tigers to an undefeated season in 1993. Terry is now the head coach at the University of North Alabama. Tommy served as head coach at Tulane and at Clemson.
